My career as a professional photographer began over 25 years ago.

I began working at the Senate Photo Studio in 1988 as a lab technician and was promoted to the position of photographer within a year. I retired from the Senate in 2004 and continue to operate my Studio in Smithsburg, Maryland.

Duties of a Senate Photographer included photographing official portraits of U.S. Senators and took photographs with them and their visitors from the home states. We captured the history of daily life at the U.S. Capitol. I also photographed special events such as; Presidential Inaugurations, Swearing in Ceremonies of newly elected Senators, Promotion Ceremonies for Military Men and Women and various receptions around the U.S. Senate Complex. I also was part of a team the photographed to “Impeachment of a sitting U.S. President.” Press conferences, and other media events were also a part of my duties as a photographer. Since retirement from the government I still work as a photographer in my studio in Smithsburg, and I have written and illustrated a children’s book, “Pitter, Patter Goes the Rain” featuring my Acorn Baby characters. The book is available through me, Abbott Press,, Barnes & Nobel and at The Mansion House Art Gallery in Hagerstown, Md. I will also have them available for sale at Boonsboro Days and at Smithsburg Steam and Craft Show this month. I have served as President and Gallery Director of The Valley Art Association, a group of local artists from Maryland, Pennsylvania for over 14 years.

My paintings are generally watercolor or pen and ink and I am working to learn Oil paintings. My artwork is on display at the Mansion House in City Park, Hagerstown. I have also studied in Dedham, England with Professional Watercolor Artist Steve Hill
